being known

many of us, at some point in our lives, have felt like we didn’t fit. in our work, in our lifestyle, in our church, in our own family. the things around us don’t resonate. don’t connect. usually we think it’s because something’s wrong with us. maybe if we sacrificed more, tried harder, we would fit. we would belong.

but then we end up exhausted. and unrecognizable. even to ourselves.

it’s not easy being recognizable. to have needs. to have feelings. to have preferences. to be seen.

maybe we don’t want to be recognizable because we’re afraid of what we’ll see. and afraid of who will and won’t resonate with it. but we don’t get to decide that. we only participate in the unveiling. and what an unveiling it will be.
