playing small
many of us feel that if we are careful we won’t get hurt, we won’t be disappointed, we won’t lose anything. don’t disrupt, don’t stand out, don’t be different. we don’t notice our smallness because it’s the only thing we’ve been allowed to be. if i want, i will lose everything. if i’m disappointed, i’m not lovable. if i don’t try to connect, it will never happen. we try so hard to get love, yet love becomes unattainable. we feel like if we just give more, we will get more. only to be devastated again. being small and needing nothing doesn’t get us more love. it is one of the most difficult realities to face. but seeing it is the beginning of something different.
