i don’t like it. i don’t agree with it. but i accept it.

so much of life is what we discover it to be. we don’t get to decide it ahead of time.

sometimes we are surprised. sometimes we are disappointed. sometimes things don’t go the way we thought they would.

my son woke up late on Saturday and realized we were leaving for swimming in about 35 minutes. he had forgotten. he had a few minutes of distress, realizing the day was not going how he thought it would, and then he reluctantly said, “i don’t like it, i don’t agree with it, but i accept it.”

i can’t remember where he got this, but it resonates with me. it’s filled with grief and angst for reality as it is. and then acceptance for it, even as imperfect as it is. i feel this every day in one way or another. forgiving reality for what it is.
