paradigms matter

if a story, a book, the news, or a sermon makes us feel small, afraid, and restrictive, we don’t have to take it in as ours. we don’t have to assume that it’s right and that we have to fit into it somehow.

to be honest, we all want it to be right, so at least we know SOMETHING, even if it makes us feel bad. and it’s hard to say no to it because it can feel directionless and empty.

but it is in this gap, in this emptiness that doesn’t get filled too quickly from the outside, where our inner truth resides. where our expansiveness has a chance to grow. where our glory resides.

i wish it were a one time thing, the disappointment of letting go of what doesn’t fit to return to the empty. but truthfully it’s a returning over and over again. a returning that slowly we begin to welcome and melt into. it becomes a returning to love.

it can be tempting to try to make fit whatever comes our way, because it’s at least something. it’s way better than nothing. but hold on. don’t be afraid. so much more is coming our way.
